JAMES LEDGARD

MBBS, FRACS (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

I am a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon who works on the North Shore of Sydney as well as in Ballina NSW. I completed my Plastic Surgery training in Sydney before a further 2 years completing the Post Fellowship Education and Training programme of the Australian Hand Surgery Society with plastic and orthopaedic surgeons both internationally and locally. I look after all conditions of the hand and wrist but my special interests are tetraplegic hand reconstruction, the treatment of spasticity and the treatment of nerve injuries. I completed fellowships in Gothenburg, Sweden and Cape Town, South Africa. I also completed fellowships in the hand departments of St Luke's Hospital, Potts Point and Sydney Hospital, Sydney where I concentrated on traumatic hand reconstruction and elective hand surgery for common conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger fingers, arthritis and Dupuytren's disease.

I work in both public and private hospitals on the north shore and privately in Lismore. I recognise the importance of considering and exploring all non-surgical options before recommending surgery to my patients.

When I’m not at work I love spending time with my wife and 2 young children. I’m happiest when I’m with them at the beach or on the water.
